Literary Agent

About:

Park & Fine Literary and Media (PFLM) is a boutique literary agency in Manhattan, specifically designed and resourced to discover and support bestselling authors across categories, genres, and continents. The agency is independently funded and founded by Theresa Park and Celeste Fine. Our leadership shares a commitment to business ethics that values people as much as profits, and a portion of the company budget is distributed annually to invest in employee-led initiatives in the publishing community. 

Your Profile:

PFLM is hiring a Senior Literary Agent. The right candidate has been working as a full-time agent for 5+ years, with demonstrated success partnering with authors in Adult and/or YA and Children’s books. PFLM values colleagues who draw from a diversity of personal and professional experiences and are passionate about every aspect of representing career authors.

Compensation & Benefits:

Compensation: $100K – $500K+ commensurate with agent’s current client list.

PFLM provides medical with premium paid by PFLM, vision and dental insurance also available with partial premium paid by PFLM. We also have a 401(k) plan after 1 full year of employment. Employees have 23 days of paid vacation, 10 holidays + 1 floating holiday, Summer Fridays 9-1 from Memorial Day-Labor Day.

Associate

Head of nonfiction department is looking for an associate who will provide support and take initiative on a very active client list with a focus on high-profile authors, especially in health, food, pop culture, science, personal development, and business. Responsibilities include administrative work (including contract and payment tracking and scheduling), client management, and book proposal and pitch writing. This is an in-office position for someone with 2-3+ years of assistant experience who is looking to learn in a fast-paced environment.

You must be able to write clear and compelling prose and be comfortable in an author-facing environment. The best candidates will understand books, sales, and marketing and be able to communicate an author’s strengths and ideas in a single sentence and in a single page, as well as in a full proposal and book. You should understand that a good agent matches the best experts with great book ideas with the perfect publishing team. You must be able to initiate, implement, and complete projects without handholding. You must thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple, conflicting deadlines and expectations. You must be results-oriented, self-directed, have excellent attention to detail, and have high expectations for yourself. You must be comfortable dealing with high-profile clients and solving unsolvable problems on a daily basis.

This is a role for an eager and passionate self-starter, a team player, who is excited to grow within the role and organization.

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation: $50k-$55k

This employee has 13 vacation days, 10 holidays + 1 floating holiday, Summer Fridays 9-1 from Memorial Day-Labor Day.
